Northumberland OPP – Recap of Recent Incidents (Names Released)

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in a number of unrelated incidents across the county.

Theft From Store
On September 30, 2026, shortly before 4:00 p.m., police received a report that an individual had stolen a power tool from a business on Grand Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
The person departed prior to police arrival. Officers obtained a description of the individual and continued their investigation.

As a result of the investigation, an individual was identified and arrested on October 1, 2026.

Jason GRAY (53) of Campbellford, has been charged with:

– Theft under $5,000

The accused is scheduled to appear before the On tario Court of Justice in Cobourg in January 2027.

RIDE Check
On September 29, 2026, shortly after midnight, officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on the Highway 401 eastbound off-ramp to Ontario Street in the Municipality of Port Hope.

Police observed a vehicle appear to avoid the RIDE check and subsequently conducted a traffic stop on Hamilton Road.

After speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation which resulted in the individual being arrested. Further investigation revealed additional offences.

Dallas GIBSON (43) of Clarington, has been charged with:

– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

– Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with interlock device

– Driving while under suspensi on

– Novice driver – B.A.C above zero

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in November 2026.

In addition, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and 45-day vehicle impoundment were imposed.

Trespassing
On September 29, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers located an intoxicated individual in a restricted area of the Northumberland OPP Detachment property on Division Street in Cobourg.

The person had recently arrived in Cobourg through public transport then proceeded on foot on Division Street.

A 37-year-old male from Brantford was arrested and charged with:

– Being intoxicated in a public place

– Enter premises when entry prohibited

Northumberland OPP reminds the public to adhere to all posted signage regarding restricted areas at OPP facilities. Members of the public requiring assistance are asked to use the designated public entrance, where a telephone is also available for additional inquiries.
