Breaking News – Belleville Police Officer, Suspect Injured in East End Incident
A Belleville Police Service officer and another individual have been injured following an incident in Belleville’s east end Sunday evening.
According to Belleville Police, the incident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. on September 20, 2026, when an officer encountered an individual in the area of Bleecker Avenue and Victoria Avenue.
Both the officer and the individual sustained injuries and were transported to hospital.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the officer was attending a community service event at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue when the officer was reportedly confronted by an armed individual.
Those reports indicate an altercation followed and that both the officer and suspect were shot.
The suspect was reportedly transported to Belleville General Hospital in critical condition, while the officer was transported to Kingston Health Sciences Centre. The officer’s current condition has not been released.
The Belleville Police Service has notified Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates incidents involving police officers that result in death, serious injury or other circumstances falling under its mandate.
Belleville Police say they are unable to provide any further information at this time.
Police are asking members of the public to avoid the area and follow directions from emergency personnel.
Police say there is no risk to public safety.
The information regarding the reported shooting and locations of the injured individuals has not been confirmed by Belleville Police and remains subject to further investigation.
