Get Sneak Preview of World-Class Cries Friday

With a slot secured in the World Town Crier Tournament in Chester, England, Sept. 22 to 26, Alnwick-Haldimand Township Crier Liam Cragg will be showing off what he’s bringing to the table on Friday morning.
Cragg is a member of the men’s group at Grafton’s St. George’s Anglican Church that offers Friday-morning breakfast to members of the community. This Friday, when his work in the kitchen permits, Cragg will step out and preview the cries he’s worked up.
One of only five Canadian entrants in the tournament, he has prepared three cries as per the rules. He is especially looking forward to the Hometown Cry, meant to extol the virtue of one’s home community – which, Cragg will make a point of stressing, is located on beautiful Lake Ontario.
It won’t exactly be a dress rehearsal, he said, as his frock coat and accessories will be freshly cleaned and carefully packed at that point. But he appreciates the chance to try the cries out in advance.
Breakfast will be served from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church’s Canon Nind Hall, located at 10792 County Rd. 2 in Grafton – toasted western sandwich, bacon, sausage, home fries and coffee for $7. And after, enjoy the cries, and maybe take the opportunity to wish Cragg well in the tournament.
