Ontario Expanding Eligibility for Tariff Support Programs

In response to the United States government’s latest actions targeting Ontario workers and businesses, the Ontario government is expanding eligibility under the Protect Ontario Financing Program (POFP) and the Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF) to protect jobs in tariff-impacted sectors. Eligibility for these programs will be expanded to include the exports listed below on the days that U.S. trade actions against those respective exports come into effect.

On September 8^th, the U.S. government outlined a range of measures aimed at Canadian exports to the U.S., including additional 50 per cent tariffs that are set to take effect on September 15^th which include:

• Certain steel, aluminum and other metal products;
• Mattresses, furniture, paper products, motorboats and golf carts;
• Certain dairy and specialty cheese products; and
• Selected animal skins and leather products.

This comes alongside additional unjustified import bans set to take effect on September 29^th which include:

• Most Canadian alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, cider, spirits and other liquor products;
• Certain dairy-related products, including whey products; and
• Motorcycles with engine capacities exceeding 800cc.
