Northumberland OPP – Two People Charged with Drug Related Offences (Names Released)
Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while conducting traffic enforcement, have charged two individuals with drug-related offences.
On August 27, 2026, at approximately 10:45 a.m., OPP officers were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 westbound in the Municipality of Brighton.
During the enforcement initiative, officers observed a passenger vehicle travelling 145 km/h. The driver initially failed to stop when directed by police. After the vehicle was later stopped, officers initiated a drug investigation.
As a result of the investigation, police seized quantities of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cannabis, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and Canadian currency.
Two individuals were taken into custody.
Mitchell BYFIELD (24) of Etobicoke has been charged with:
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
– Speeding
– Fail to surrender insurance card
– Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
– Novice driver fail to surrender licence
– Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
– Fail to stop for police
– Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle
Albert ADU-BOAT ENG (26) of North York has been charged with:
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
– Failure to comply with release order
Both accused were held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
