OPP – Third Set of Human Remains Located and Identified

Police have located a third set of human remains on a property northeast of Smiths Falls and confirmed they belong to a missing Smiths Falls resident.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2026, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located human remains on a property on Kelly Jordan Road. Following a postmortem examination, the deceased was identified as Lawrence BE RTRIM of Smiths Falls. Lawrence, who was 42 years old at the time of his disappearance, was last seen on Friday, September 30, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m., in downtown Smiths Falls.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

This is the third set of human remains found on the Kelly Jordan Road property. OPP officers located the first set of human remains on Thursday, October 30, 2025, while executing a search warrant. The remains were confirmed as those of Robbie THOMSON, who was reported missing in October 2023. Four individuals have since been arrested and charged in connection with Robbie’s death.

On Monday, July 20, 2026, OPP members located a second set of human remains on the property. Following a postmortem examination, the deceased was identified as 75-year-old Robert LAMBERT of Montague Township, who was reported missing to the Lanark County OPP on Friday, November 30, 2018. He was last seen in early July 2018. The cause of Robert’s death has not yet been determined and no arrests have been made in connection to his death. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.

A $50,000 reward offered by the Government of Ontario remains in place for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the disappearance of Lawrence BERTRIM. An OPP video has been posted, and a photo of Lawrence is attached to this media release.

This remains an active investigation by the Lanark County OPP and Smiths Falls Police Service, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance has been provided by the OPP’s East Region Regional Support Team, Forensic Interview Team, Forensic Identification Services, Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Aviation Services and Urban Search and Rescue CBRNE Response Team.
Police will maintain an increased presence on Kelly Jordan Road as part of this ongoing investigation. Updates will be provided as they become available.
