Cobourg Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a fail-to-remain collision early Saturday morning.
Shortly before 1 a.m., a vehicle travelling northbound on McGill Street struck a light bollard, sending debris across a large area.
Instead of stopping, the vehicle continued north on McGill Street (traveling the wrong way on a one way street) before turning right onto King Street East.
The vehicle then became inoperative, and witnesses said the lone occupant got out of the vehicle.
A short time later, the driver fled the area on foot.
When police arrived, officers established a containment area around the location where the suspect was last seen.
Cobourg Police Constable Amrit Gill and his canine partner, Atos, were brought in to track the suspect. Despite their efforts, the suspect was not located.
Police remain at the scene and continue to investigate the incident.
Anyone with information about the driver or the collision is asked to contact the Cobourg Police Service.
