City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Multiple Charges Following Collision (Name Released)
A City of Kawartha Lakes resident is facing numerous criminal charges following a serious head-on collision on Highway 7, an alleged failure to remain at the scene, threats involving members of the public, and a subsequent arrest by police during the early morning hours of August 13, 2026.
On August 13, 202 6, at approximately 1:20 a.m., members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a head-on collision on Highway 7 between Lindsay and Omemee.
Upon arrival, officers located a white Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Toyota RAV4 that had sustained significant damage as a result of the collision. The driver of the pickup truck was not at the scene when officers arrived.
As officers investigated, information was received that the driver of the pickup truck had fled on foot and was behaving erratically in the area. Witnesses reported the individual approaching occupied vehicles and nearby residences.
A search for the individual was initiated. Shortly thereafter, officers located a male who fled from police on foot. During the ensuing pursuit, the male continued to disregard police commands and actively resisted arrest. Following a dynamic interaction involving multiple officers, the male was safely taken into custody.
During the investigation, officers seized a bladed weapon and other evidence believed to be connected to the incident.
The driver of the Toyota RAV4 sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
As a result of the investigation, Michael Larabie, a 56-year-old City of Kawartha Lakes resident has been charged with:
Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
Dangerous Operation
Failure to Stop After Accident
Resist Peace Officer
Assault
Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm x 3
Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
