Jacob Hyatt Now Competing in Two National Lawn Bowling Championships this Month

Cobourg Lawn Bowling Club member Jacob Hyatt has a busy schedule for high-level competition on the greens in August.
As recently reported, the 16-year-old, who turns 17 later this month, is competing this week in the U18 division at the Canadian Youth Lawn Bowling Championship in Hanover (todaysnorthumberland.ca/2026/07/30/jacob-hyatt-heading-to-national-lawn-bowling-championship/).
Hyatt, though, now has another major event to look forward to once the youth championship wraps up.
His Ontario men’s fours team has received confirmation that it earned a berth at the Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships, which will be held Aug. 16 to 24 at the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club in British Columbia.
The fours team came together through the friendships Hyatt has developed while competing in lawn bowling across Ontario.
“The people I bowl against in Ontario, we started a fours team and placed third in provincials,” Hyatt said. “We bowl against each other all week and then we play with each other.”
Hyatt said he enjoys the team aspect of fours, particularly the opportunity to communicate with his teammates during matches rather than competing on his own.
In the fours format, Hyatt serves as the second on his team, helping set up the vice and skip. Each player delivers two shots.
The team will also bring plenty of youth to the national championships, with every member under the age of 18.
That is expected to make Hyatt and his teammates among the youngest competitors in the field when they take to the greens in Vancouver.
Hyatt recently noted that many generous donations to help get him to these tournaments, especially the upcoming trip to Vancouver. He appreciates it all, including from the Cobourg Lawn Bowling Club.
“I love the club support that they’ve always gave me. Through all these tournaments the club has gave me money, support to go to these tournaments. Cobourg is a really good supporting club.”
