Belleville Police Service – Incidents Include Two People Struck by Train, Break and Enter, Fail to Comply, Warrants

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 341 calls for service beginning at 5:00 a.m. on July 31, 2026, to 5:00 a.m. on August 4, 2026.

Two Pedestrians Struck by Train
On Monday, August 3, 2026, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Belleville Police responded to the area of Wilkie Street following a report of a pedestrian struck by a train.

Officers attended the scene and located two individuals, both of whom had been struck by a train. Both individuals were pronounced deceased.

Any further inquiries should be directed to the Office of the Chief Coroner.

Break and Enter
On August 2, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Belleville Police attended a business in the city’s east end regarding a report of a break and enter. It was reported that sometime overnight, the store was broken into and merchandise stolen. While officers were enroute, the complainant advised that two youths had attended the store and were causing a disturbance, with one displaying a knife.

Upon arrival, officers located the two youths, who fled on foot but were quickly taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, the following persons were arrested and charged:

A 14-year-old Belleville male, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was charged with the following offences and released on an Undertaking:

· Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose

· Break and enter – with intent to commit indictable offence

A 13-year-old Belleville male, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was charged with the following offences and released on an Undertaking:

· Theft under $5000

· Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

· Break and enter – commit indictable offence

Fail to Comply
On August 2, 2026, at 3:50 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a Belleville hotel regarding a well-being check on occupants who had not complied with checkout procedures.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with two individuals in the room, who left upon police request.

Further investigation revealed that one individual was in breach of court-ordered conditions.

As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old Belleville woman was arrested and charged with:

· Fail to comply with a release order

She was held for a bail hearing.

Fail to Comply
On August 2, 2026, at 9:23 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s west end regarding a disturbance. The initial call indicated two individuals were attempting to gain access to an apartment unit that was not theirs.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the male and female and learned they lived at the residence but had lost their key. Upon further investigation, officers learned that the male was bound by conditions prohibiting him from communicating with the female.

As a result of investigation, a 35-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:

· Fail to comply with probation order

He was held for a bail hearing.

Warrants
On August 1, 2026, Belleville Police responded to the city’s west end regarding a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the involved parties and learned that the male was wanted on outstanding Belleville Police Service arrest warrants.

As a result of investigation, a 44-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address was arrested on the strength of the outstanding arrest warrants and held for a bail hearing.

Impaired Driver / Fail to Stop
On August 1, 2026, at 11:40 p.m., Belleville Police responded to the area of Pinnacle Street and Victoria Avenue regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

It was reported that a vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing at the intersection and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

At 12:27 a.m., officers located the suspect vehicle in the city’s north end along with the male suspect. Upon speaking with the male, officers observed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, Stephen Gallant, a 54-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg

· Operation causing bodily harm

· Fail to stop at accident resulting in bodily harm

He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in October.
