A 28-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges following an intimate partner violence investigation.
On July 8, 2026, members of the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) commenced an investigation after receiving information regarding allegations of intimate partner violence.
As a result of the investigation, on July 10, 2026, members of CIB, with the assistance of uniform patrol officers, conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Cobourg and arrested a 28-year-old Cobourg man without incident.
The accused was charged with sexual assault, assault – spousal, and distribute intimate image without consent. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing. The name of the accused is withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
Cobourg Police Service reminds everyone that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. Sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. Police encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.
