Not in the right house

The owners of a short-term rental in the city got an unexpected surprise when they checked on the property Sunday morning.

Police were called to a residence on Moira Street East after a cleaner attending the short-term rental discovered an unknown man inside the home. The man told the cleaner he had recently purchased the property.

Officers arrived and met with the legitimate owner. Following an investigation, the 30-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with break and enter.

During his arrest, the man provided police with several different names and aliases.

With the assistance of the Canada Border Services Agency, officers were able to confirm his identity.

The suspect was subsequently further charged with obstructing a peace officer.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing on Monday.
