Northumberland OPP – Multiple Incidents Over the Weekend

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a number of charges in separate incidents over the weekend.

Impaired Driving Charge

On June 10, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Emergency Medical Services (EMS) notified police of a single-vehicle collision on County Road 27 in the Municipality of Brighton.

Officers attended and located a pickup truck that had entered a field. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. No other persons were involved.

As a result of the investigation, officers initiated an impaired operation investigation, leading to the driver being taken into custody.

Lucas SHUTTLEWORTH (27) from Brighton, has been charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July.

Additionally, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound were issued.

 

Impaired Driving Charge

On June 13, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers were in the area of Toronto Street and Church Street in Colborne responding to a disturbance.

While there, police observed the driver of a passenger vehicle lose traction while turning onto King Street.

The vehicle was located on Victoria Street and the driver was taken into custody. During the investigation, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation. The individual was transported to a local detachment for further testing, where a result nearly three times the legal limit was registered.

Damon ARMSTRONG (27) from Norwood, has been charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

· Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt

· Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July. In addition to the ADLS, a 14-day vehicle impound was imposed.

 

Impaired Driving Charge

On June 15, 2026, shortly after 10:00 p.m., police responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.

It was reported that a passenger vehicle had been travelling at a high rate of speed before striking a guardrail and coming to rest on the shoulder.

Officers spoke with the uninjured driver and initiated an impaired operation investigation. The individual was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further testing. No other persons were involved.

Brandon JEFFERIES (35) from Mississauga, has been charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

· Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July. A 90-day ADLS and seven-day vehicle impound were also imposed.

 

Theft of Motor Vehicle

On June 13, 2026, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police received a report that a person known to the complainant had taken a pickup truck without consent from an address on Northwoods Drive in the Municipality of Trent Hills. A description of the individual and vehicle was provided.

The following day, 2026, officers were advised that the individual had returned to the residence with the vehicle but was no longer welcome. It was also reported that a quantity of construction tools had been removed from the vehicle and were unaccounted for.

The individual was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

A 34-year-old female, from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:

· Take motor vehicle without consent

· Theft over $5,000 from a motor vehicle

· Operation while prohibited

· Fail to comply with undertaking

· Fail to comply with release order

The accused will not be identified to protect the identity of the victim.

 

Stolen Vehicle

On June 6, 2026, shortly before 4:00 a.m., OPP responded to a report of a stolen passenger vehicle from a residence on Elgin Street West in the Municipality of Brighton.

Despite patrols in the area, the vehicle was not located. The investigation remains ongoing.

Harassment Charge

On April 14, 2026, a complainant attended the Brighton Detachment to report that a tracking device had been placed on their vehicle without their consent.

The device was recovered and police began an investigation into the matter.

On June 11, 2026, one individual was taken into custody.

A 48-year-old male from Oshawa, has been charged with:

· Criminal harassment – repeatedly follow, repeatedly communicate with, watch and beset, threatening conduct

· Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property

· Failure to comply with release order

The accused will not be identified to protect the identity of the victim and was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
