Northumberland OPP – Prohibited and Impaired Driving Charges in Recent Incidents (Names Releaesed)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid several charges following recent traffic enforcement incidents.

On April 19, 2026, police received multiple complaints regarding a vehicle that was unable to maintain its lane while travelling southbound on County Road 25 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. Members of the public provided officers with a description and direction of travel, and OPP subsequently located and stopped a matching vehicle.

After speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired operation investigation. The individual was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further testing.

David STEWART (30) from Curve Lake, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The aaccused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in June 2026. A 90‑day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven‑day vehicle impound were also imposed.

On April 23, 2026, shortly after 11:00 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for having no trailer plate on Rice Lake Drive in the Township of Hamilton. Further investigation revealed the driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.

Garry SIMPSON (68) from Cobourg, has been charged with:

·        Operation while prohibited

·        Draw trailer, no plate

·        Fail to surrender permit for trailer

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in June 2026. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

On April 23, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person on a motorcycle on Percy Boom Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

Upon arrival, officers determined the motorcycle operator was prohibited from driving. Several additional offences were identified, and the individual was taken into custody.

Kyle LANGFORD (39) from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:

·        Operation while prohibited

·        Drive motor vehicle, no permit

·        Use plate not authorized for vehicle

·        Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

·        Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in June. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

A driving prohibition is issued by a court and ignoring it puts everyone at risk. Those caught driving while prohibited face serious consequences, including new criminal charges, extended driving bans, fines, and vehicle impoundment.
