Cobourg Police Chief Reports on Recent Drug Seizure

The monthly Chief’s Report at Tuesday’s meeting of the Cobourg Police Services Board led off with details on a Feb.12 drug seizure.
Chief Paul VandeGraaf said that a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was executed on a Cobourg property with the help of the Port Hope Police Service. Four residents were arrested, and they recovered fentanyl, cocaine, cash, cell phones and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
It was worth $18,500, “representing 240 potential fatal overdoses removed from our community,” VandeGraaf said.
The chief had a special shout-out for the Belleville Police whose containment team and canine units ensure such entries are done as safely as possible.
Their Warrant Apprehension and Bail Compliance Project has, so far in 2026, executed 52 warrant arrests (18 of them held by other police services and returned), and 30 on bail violations.
“That is a substantive amount of apprehensions in our community over a two-month period,” he said.
“That just tells me, as a walk out of my career, the bail system has yet to work efficiently.”
The Pitch to the Chief finals, held at Venture 13 on March 4, will see six pitches, following the recent finals at Waterloo.
The Auxiliary’s Feb. 15 Cram-A-Cruiser brought in $1,067 in donations and 2,249 lb. of food for Fare Share food bank. The next one will take place March 8 at No Frills.
And Support for the Special Olympics continues, with the next big event being the Polar Plunge the Cobourg and Port Hope police services will host at the Cobourg Marina March 22 – “freezin’ for a reason,” the chief said.
