The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid several charges in connection with a series of unrelated incidents across the county.
On January 25, 2026, shortly before 9:00 p.m., police responded to a report of an individual causing a disturbance and damaging a door at a residence on Burnham Street North in the Township of Hamilton. The person had left prior to police arrival. Descriptions of two persons operating Motorized Snow Vehicles (MSVs), assisted officers in their investigation.

On January 30, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an i ndividual threatening another resident and kicking the complainant’s door in a multi-unit residence on Front Street East in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

On January 31, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers observed a vehicle nearly collide with another and then fail to stop for police before leaving the area at a high rate of speed in Cobourg. The vehicle was later located unoccupied at a commercial property on County Road 45. Following an investigation, the driver was identified and arrested on February 1, 2026.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in March. Their driver’s license was suspended for 30 days and vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
On February 8, 2026, shortly before 2:30 a.m., police stopped a speeding vehicle on Concession Road 3 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. OPP then began an impaired operation investigation after speaking to the motorist. As a result, the person was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

On February 8, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Trent Hills, after observing a vehicle pass in an u nsafe manner. An impaired operation investigation was initiated, and the driver was arrested.

Both accused charged with impaired operation are due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in March. A further 90-day Administrative Driver License Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
