Cobourg police have charged two Cobourg women following a shoplifting investigation.
On January 12, 2026, officers responded to a report of theft from a business in the northeast end of Cobourg. Police located one individual matching the description provided and, with assistance from CCTV footage, identified a second suspect.
The 30-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. The accused was held for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody.
On January 13, 2026, officers were on general patrol in the downtown core and observed the second suspect. The 36-year-old Cobourg woman was taken into custody and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. The co-accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released.
Cobourg Police have charged a 58-year-old man following an investigation of a parcel theft
On January 14, 2026, officers responded to a report of a theft of a parcel from a downtown residence. Police reviewed the video footage and identified the suspect.
A short time later, police on general patrol observed the suspect in the area of William Street and Elgin Street West. As a result, a 58-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and three counts of breach of probation order. The male was held pending a show cause hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
The Cobourg Police Service notes that since January 2025, the accused has been arrested eight times with 21 criminal charges. In total, police have had 11 interactions with the accused in the past year.
A 48-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after break and enter reported to police.
On January 14, 2026, police received a report of break and enter at a business in the northeast of Cobourg after damage to the door of the mechanical room was discovered.
Following the police investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested. The 48-year-old Cobourg man was charged with break and enter and breach of recognizance. The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released.
