Peterborough County OPP – Vehicle in Ditch Leads to Impaired Charge (Name Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired after investigating a vehicle in a ditch call.

On Saturday June 14, 2025, at approximately 1:00am, Peterborough County OPP officers received a call regarding a vehicle that had gone off the road on Brick Road in Selwyn Township and landed in a ditch upside down.

Officers arrived on scene and observed a pickup truck on its roof in the ditch. An individual that was with the vehicle advised that the driver had gone to get tools to assist in removing the vehicle and a tow had been contacted as well.

Upon arrival of the tow, officers attended the residence of the registered owner and after speaking with them, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The individual was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Wyatt JANZEN (age 21) of Selwyn Township, ON., was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Fail to remain

·      Fail to report accident

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

·      Drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit

·      No mudguards

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 15, 2025.
