Peterborough County OPP – Single Vehicle Collision Closes County Road 503

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews are currently on scene of a single motor vehicle collision that closed County Road 503.

On Tuesday June 17, 2025, at approximately 7:30am, the Peterborough County OPP received a call regarding a collision that had taken place on County Road 503 near Kinmount. The caller advised that a commercial vehicle had left the roadway striking a rock-cut. The vehicle appeared to be smoking and was also carrying oxygen bottles. As a result, Fire was dispatched as well.

Officers arrived on scene to find fire crews working on the vehicle which was now on fire. County Road 503 was closed as a result of the fire, as well as concerns over the oxygen bottles that were on the vehicle. Fire crews were able to put out the fire although the vehicle was a total loss.

County road 503 is currently being reopened to allow one lane through but will be blocked again temporarily when the vehicle is being removed.

No injuries were reported at the time of the collision.
