Peterborough County OPP – Bicycle Versus Pickup Collision in Selwyn

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews attended a collision involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle.

On Sunday June 8, 2025, shortly after 2:00pm, the Peterborough County OPP, along with EMS and Fire, responded to a collision on the 12th Line in Selwyn Township, involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle.

Officers attended and found a cyclist had been struck while attempting to make a U-turn in the roadway. A pickup truck travelling the same direction was unable to stop when the cyclist attempted to turn in front of them.

The cyclist, an 84-year-old from Lakefield was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted by ORNGE Air to a Toronto area trauma centre.

The 12th Line was closed between Preston Road and Young’s Point Road while emergency crews dealt with the collision and will remain closed while officers trained in collision reconstruction measure and document the scene. Please avoid the area and expect delays.
