Durham Regional Police – E-Bike Collision Results in Fatality

 An 88-year-old male had died after collision from early May in Whitby.

On Friday, May 2, 2025 at approximately 10:20 a.m., members of Central West Division responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Lake Ridge Road North and Taunton Road involving three vehicles. An enclosed single rider e-bike was southbound on Lake Ridge Road North when they were struck by a southbound Jeep Wrangler. The impact caused the e-bike to cross the centre line where it was struck by a northbound Hyundai Velostar. The operator of the e-bike was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. No other parties reported physical injuries.

On May 15, the operator of the e-bike, an 88-year-old male, died in hospital as a result of his injuries from the collision.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
