Celebrating AccessAbility Week in Belleville
May 25 to 31 is National AccessAbility Week – a time to celebrate the valuable contributions and leadership of persons with disabilities in Canada, the work of allies, organizations and communities that are removing barriers, and the ongoing efforts to become a more accessible and disability inclusive Canada. In honour of this year’s celebration, the City of Belleville is hosting three special events throughout the week:
Belleville Accessibility Excellence Awards Ceremony – Join the Accessibility Advisory Committee on Tuesday, May 27 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Multipurpose Room at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre as we celebrate the winners of the 2025 Accessibility Excellence Awards. These awards recognize and highlight local businesses and individuals in our community who go out of their way to provide and advocate for accessibility provisions. Those receiving awards are helping to reduce and eliminate barriers in the areas of built environment, customer service, education, employment, information and communication, and transportation. Special Announcement and Demonstration – The City of Belleville will be hosting a special announcement and demonstration of new assistive listening devices which have been installed at City Hall, and the 50+ Centre and Multipurpose Room at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre, on Thursday, May 29 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Council Chamber at City Hall (4th floor).
Iron Knee-Iron Will Book Reading with Scott Granville – Join us on Friday, May 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room at the Belleville Public Library for a special book reading event with local author, Scott Granville. During the event, Scott will read from his upcoming book, Iron Knee-Iron Will – an exercise book for the entire body and mind that he developed after dealing with several health issues, and back-to-back hit and run car crashes. Scott will be reading from the new book which will be available on Amazon in the summer.
