Belleville Police – Incidents Include Paramedic Assaulted, Domestic Assault, Victims Pepper Sprayed

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 354 calls for service between 5:00 am on May 2, 2025 to 5:00 am on May 5, 2025.

Domestic Assault
On the 2nd of May at 8:14am, Belleville Police received a call from a witness who reported that they observed a male and female exit a vehicle and walk onto the front porch of a residence in the city’s east end. They pair were engaged in an argument when the male began to physically assaulted the female. Police attended the residence and confirmed that an assault had occurred. As a result, a 22-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with assault. The male was released from custody on an Undertaking with a court date in May. The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Breach of Probation
On the 30th of April, members of the Community Resource Unit (CRU) attended a location on Pinnacle Street regarding a disturbance. Upon their arrival, police located the male who was extremely agitated and initially refused to leave the premises. The male eventually left the area. Police were concerned with the behavior of the male and found that this had not been an isolated incident. Police continued their investigation into the male in consultation with the male’s probation officer. As a result, on the 2nd of May, the male was arrested at a Sidney Street business without incident. He was charged with breaching his conditions of his Probation Order. The 41-year-old male of no fixed address was held for a bail hearing.

 

Arrested on warrant
On the 3rd of May at 3:00am, Belleville Police located a male that was walking in the middle of the road with a shopping cart on Sidney St. During their investigation, police discovered the 41-year-old male of no fixed address was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to comply with a Release Order. As a result, the male was arrested without incident and he was held for a bail hearing.

Assault on Paramedic leads to arrest and charges
On the 3rd of May at 9:35am, police responded with Hasting-Quinte Paramedics to a report of an unconscious male on Bridge Street East. Paramedics arrived on-scene first and began to assess the male. The male woke up and began to physically assault the paramedic. Police arrived shortly after and took the male into custody. As a result of the investigation, police charged a 40-year-old man of no fixed address with causing a disturbance, assault and four counts of breaching his probation. The male was held for a bail hearing.

Victims sprayed with pepper spray
On the 3rd of May at 7:19pm, police responded to an east end residence for a report of persons being pepper sprayed. Police arrived in the area and found three people had attended the residence and one of the suspects pepper sprayed the family. A 61-year-old female appeared to receive the majority of the spray. She required medical attention from paramedics. All 3 suspects fled the area prior to police arrival. One suspect was arrested a short distance away. A second suspect was identified but not apprehended. Police are continuing their investigation into the identity of the 3rd suspect. Police arrested and charged a 22-year-old Deseronto man with assault with a weapon, carry a prohibited weapon and administer a noxious substance. The male was released on an Undertaking with a court date in June. A warrant was requested for a 21-year-old Belleville man for charges of assault with a weapon, carry a prohibited weapon, administer a noxious substance and weapons dangerous. Impaired Driving
On the 4th of May at 4pm, Belleville Police were dispatched to a report of a male that had driven away from a Front Street business who appeared to be impaired from the consumption of alcohol. Shortly after, officers attended the vehicle owner’s residence and located the male passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in his driveway. The male was awakened and found to be showing signs of impairment. He was arrested without incident. The male was transported to the Belleville Police Service where he provided breath samples almost four times the legal limit. As a result, 47-year-old Daniel Reid was charged with impaired operation and having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood. He was later released with a court date in June.
