Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged three individuals with impaired driving within a 24-hour period.
On March 8, 2025, shortly after 9:00pm, a Peterborough County OPP Officer was conducting general patrol on Highway 115 when they noticed a pickup truck in the emergency turn around lane. The officer conducted a traffic stop and was told by the driver that they were trying to get in touch with their spouse. The officer detected an odour of alcohol on the driver made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The officer observed a youth in the rear of the vehicle so requested the driver step out so as not to conduct the test in front of the youth. The driver complied with the demand resulting in a reading of ‘FAIL’ at which point they were arrested. Arrangements were made for the youth to be picked up.
The driver, a 41-year-old from Kingston, ON., was arrested and charged with;
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on April 1, 2025
On March 9, 2025, just prior to 4:30am, a Peterborough County OPP officer observed a vehicle on Parkhill Road in the City of Peterborough, driving with out any rear lights visible. The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver. The officer made a demand for the ASD. The driver complied with the demand resulting in a reading of ‘FAIL’ at which point they were arrested. During the interaction with the driver, it was also determined that the driver was currently suspended from operating a motor vehicle in Ontario.
Connor COWIE, age 23 from Peterborough, ON., was arrested and charged with;
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Driving while under suspension
· Drive without proper rear light – motor vehicle
· Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
The accused had their driver’s licence further suspended, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on April 1, 2025

The officer observed a vehicle travelling a rate noticeably higher than the posted 100km/hr speed. The officer obtained a speed reading and then conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol coming from the driver. The officer made a demand for the ASD. The driver complied with the demand resulting in a reading of ‘FAIL’ at which point they were arrested.
Antonio CRUZ, age 56 from Etobicoke, ON., was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Speeding
The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on April 1, 2025.
