Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a single vehicle collision that led to the driver being charged with impaired.
On February 9, 2025, shortly after 11:00pm, Peterborough County OPP received a report of a vehicle that had been driving with no lights on, that had now gone off the road on Centre Line in Selwyn Township. A passerby approached the vehicle which was deep in the snow in the ditch facing the wrong direction of travel. Upon speaking to the driver, the passerby contacted the OPP.
Officers attended the scene and observed the vehicle facing north in the ditch adjacent to the southbound lane. The engine of the vehicle was on, and it appeared that the driver was attempting to drive out of the ditch. The officer made their way through waist high snow to the vehicle and made contact with the driver.
After speaking with the driver, the officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD) to which the driver complied. The test resulted in a FAIL reading and the driver was arrested.
Caleb SEBBEN (age 34) of Peterborough, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
