Festive RIDE

The Peterborough Police Service conducted two Festive RIDE checks on Friday, December 6, 2024, and Saturday, December 7, 2024.

In total, 473 vehicles were checked with 19 ASD tests administered with 1 fail.

A 45-year-old Peterborough is facing impaired and Highway Traffic Act charges after an incident on Friday evening.

At approximately 11:40pm on December 6, 2024, officers conducting a Festive RIDE stop in the Water Street and King Street area noticed a vehicle just north of the check conduct a U-turn and drive the wrong way on Water Street going through a red light. A traffic stop was conducted and during the stop the officer noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Red light – fail to stop (Highway Traffic Act)
Drive wrong way – one-way traffic (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on January 14, 2025.

 

Break and Enter Arrest

A 37-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Monday morning.

At approximately 5:30am on December 9, 2024, officers were called to a business on Charlotte Street about a break and enter in progress. Upon arrival, officers noticed the front door window was smashed. They located a man inside a locked bathroom. He was taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
Fail to Comply with Probation Order x2
The accused is currently bound by two probation orders with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, December 9, 2024.

 

Fraud/Drug Arrest

A 27-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Friday morning.

At approximately 11:05am on Friday, December 6, 2024, officers were called to Lansdowne Place about a male attempting to make purchases with cards that did not belong to him. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description given to police at a kiosk and took him into custody. During a search after arrest, officers located several cards that were not in the name of the suspect along with 20.8 grams of fentanyl.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

Fraud Under $5000
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada
Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs (Fentanyl)
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Friday, December 6, 2024.

 

Weapons Arrest

A 41-year-old Peterborough man is facing multiple charges after an incident Friday evening.

At approximately 10:30pm on December 6, 2024, officers were called to a residence in the area of Ireland Drive and Cowling Heights. Upon arrival, officers learned that one of the roommates pointed a knife at another roommate and pushed them to the ground before threatening several other roommates with knives as well as making verbal threats. Officers located the suspect in his room and took him into custody without incident. During a search of the room after arrest, officers located three knives. No one was seriously injured in the incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

Assault with A Weapon X5
Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm X5
Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, December 7, 2024
