Peterborough County OPP – Peterborough Man Charged with Impaired (Name Released)

An officer from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired as a result of conducting a traffic stop.

On Saturday November 2, 2024, at approximately 11:15pm, a Peterborough County OPP officer was conducting general patrol on Highway 7 in the township of Otonabee-South Monaghan. The officer observed a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed and activated their Radar. The officer activated their emergency lighting and initiated a traffic stop.

After a brief conversation with the driver, the officer determined they were under the influence of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.

Carlos MONTERO (age 51) of Peterborough, ON., was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The driver was also charged with Speeding under the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on December 10, 2024.
