Update – Northumberland OPP – Search for Stolen Vehicle
The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recovered a stolen vehicle following a report from a member of the public.
On October 16, 2024, at approximately 9:10 a.m., an employee at a gas station off County Road 2 in Welcome, called police and described a vehicle that had been left unattended at the location and suspected it to be stolen.
At around the same time, the Port Hope Police Service (PHPS) contacted the OPP to advise that they were searching for a suspected stolen vehicle, matching the description provided, which was last seen westbound on County Road 2.
OPP officers including Traffic Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) members proceeded to the location where PHPS officers were present, and the passenger vehicle was confirmed to be stolen and unoccupied. The vehicle had earlier been stolen from an address in Ajax.
A second vehicle described as a grey SUV, was al so observed in the area and left prior to the arrival of police. It is suspected to also have been stolen this morning from a vehicle dealership in Toronto.
This investigation is on-going and police are seeking information in relation to the grey SUV and it’s occupants.
