Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual in relation to a sexual assault investigation.
On September 17, 2024, Northumberland OPP received information about a sexual assault that had occurred at a residence in the Township of Hamilton.
The incident is reported to have occurred over a period of approximately 5 years and the victim was known to the accused during this time frame.
As a result of the investigation assisted by the Northumberland Crime Unit, police arrested a person on September 19, 2024. The individual will not be named to protect the identity of the victim and also under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) as the charges relate to offences committed when the accused was 17 years of age or younger.
An 18-year-old, from the Township of Hamilton, has been charged with:
– Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
– Sexual interference
– Makes, prints, publishes or possesses for the purpose of publication, any child pornography
– Possession of child pornography
– Assault.
The individual was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
