Update – Belleville Police – Female Cyclist Killed in Collision with Vehicle

The Belleville Police Service is releasing the name of the female cyclist killed as a result of a collision with a vehicle earlier this week.

Around 4:30 a.m. on September 12, 2024 police and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics were dispatched to a report of a car that struck a cyclist on Dundas Street West near the intersection of Avonlough Road.

The driver involved remained at the scene was cooperative with police.

The cyclist was treated at the scene, however died at Belleville hospital as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.

The cyclist has since been identified as Belleville resident Melissa McGiffin, 40.

The Belleville Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. McGiffin during this difficult time.

An investigation in the incident was launched involving members from the Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit and the Belleville Police Forensic Identification Unit.
No charges are expected at this time.

The female cyclist died as a result of the collision. The involved driver of the car remained at the scene. Police are continuing the investigation
