Belleville Police – Incidents Include Cyclist Killed, Disturbance Leads to Arrest
Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 106 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on September 11, 2024 to 5:00 am on September 12, 2024.
Car versus cyclist fatality
On the 12th of September at 4:30am, Belleville Police and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to a report that a car struck a cyclist near the intersection of Dundas Street West and Avonlough Rd. The female cyclist died as a result of the collision. The involved driver of the car remained at the scene. Police are continuing the investigation.

Disturbance leads to arrest and charges
On the 11th of September at 7:16pm, Belleville Police responded to a business on North Front St in regards to a theft. Police arrived and spoke to staff who advised that a male entered the store and proceeded to steal a quantity of merchandise before leaving without paying. With the assistance of staff, police were able to identify the suspect but he had left the area prior to police arrival.
Later in the evening at 9:16pm, officers received a call to a downtown business who reported that a male entered the store requesting food. Store employees in an effort to be kind, provided the man with a quantity of free food. Shortly after, the man returned to the store and began complaining about the food. The male then proceeded to spit at employees, he smashed out a window and damaged a nearby vehicle with a knife. Police attended and arrested the male without further incident. The male was the same person who stole from the business on North Front St. two hours earlier. Police charged a 48-year-old male of no fixed address with assault, two counts of mischief, theft under $5000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a Probation Order. He was held for a bail hearing.
Arrested on Warrant
On the 11th of September at 8:36am, Belleville Police responded to a business on Bridge Street West regarding a male who was out front of the store yelling and intimidating customers. Police spoke to the male and during their investigation learned that he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for assault. As a result, police arrested 43-year-old Tyler Branscomb of no fixed address on the strength of the warrant. He was later released on an Undertaking with a new court date in October.
