Peterborough County OPP – Three Impaired Charges Over Long Weekend (Names Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged three individuals with impaired driving over the Labour Day long weekend.

On Friday August 30, 2024, shortly after 9:30pm, the Peterborough County OPP received a call regarding a vehicle that had gone into the ditch on Belmont 7th Line in the Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the driver noting an odour of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.

Jake PERRY (age 22) of Campbellford, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 17, 2024.

On Saturday August 31, 2024, at approximately 7:00pm, Peterborough County OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on the off-ramp from Highway 115 at County Road 28 in Cavan-Monaghan Township. A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. and an officer spoke to the driver. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.

Maxwell CANT (age 28) of Selwyn, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 3, 2024.

On Monday September 2, 2024, at approximately 7:00pm, Peterborough County OPP were dispatched to a single vehicle roll-over on Highway 7 in Cavan-Monaghan Township. A passerby contacted the OPP advising that a passenger in the vehicle had an injury to their forehead and the driver of the vehicle had run off into a nearby wooded area. Officers arrived on scene where they were provided a description of the driver. In an effort to locate the driver to ensure they were not injured, a call was placed for a K9 unit to attend. The Peterborough Police Service (PPS) also advised they could dispatch a drone operator to assist with the search. Several hours later, the driver of the vehicle was located and arrested.

The passenger of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Brock HOARE (age 19) of Cavan, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Dangerous Operation

·      Failure to stop after accident

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 8, 2024.
