Port Hope Police and Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services are sounding the alarm and asking for the public’s help after another porta-potty was set ablaze early Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
Fire Prevention Officer Adam McCurdy said over the last five weeks, the fire department has responded to five suspicious fires within the urban area of Port Hope.
The former file factory on Cavan Street and four porta-potties at the fish ladder, Optimist Park, the soccer field at the Port Hope Rec Centre have been set ablaze and destroyed.
As the portable washrooms are being rented by the municipality, the onus is on the municipality to pay for each one.
“Our main concern is public safety.”
“If these continue or if this escalates someone could be injured or worse.”
