Belleville Police Service – Incidents Including Fire Leads to Mischief Charge, Impaired, Breach (Names Released)
Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 228 calls for service between 5:00 am on August 23, 2024 to 5:00 am on August 26, 2024.
Fire leads to mischief charge
On the 23rd of August at 10:12pm, Belleville Police were requested to assist members of the Belleville Fire Department with a combative female while they were attempting to extinguish a fire at a location on the corner of Bridge St East and Church St. The subsequent police investigation revealed that the female had set a piece of furniture on fire which then caused minor damage to the exterior of the building. There were no reported injuries. As a result, 26-year-old Sarah Rampanen of no fixed address was arrested and charged with mischief. She was released on an Undertaking with a court date in October.
Breach of Probation
On the 23rd of August at 10:37pm, Belleville Police were dispatched to the area of Ridley St and Grier St for a report of a male chasing after a female. Police attended and located the parties. The male took off on foot from police but following a short foot pursuit was apprehended. The 32-year-old male from Belleville was on conditions not to associate with the female he was chasing after. As a result, the male was arrested and charged with breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
Impaired Driving
On the 24th of August at 12:01am, Belleville Police received a report of a possible impaired driver in the city’s north end. The vehicle was observed hitting the ditch, swerving and travelling at inconsistent speeds. Responding officers located and stopped the vehicle on North Park Street. As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device was administered and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service for further testing.
As a result, 41-year-old Matthew McKenzie of Warkworth was charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in October.
Impaired Driving
On the 24th of August at 2:40am, an officer was responding to a non-emergency call for service. While on-route, a specific vehicle caught the officer’s attention for the manner in which it was being driven. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver. As a result of the interaction, the officer arrested the driver for impaired driving. At the conclusion of the investigation, 21-year-old Liam Cross of Stirling was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in October.
Assault
On the 24th of August at 7:00pm, Belleville Police attended a residence in the city’s west end regarding a domestic disturbance. Officers spoke to the involved parties and learned that a female had sustained minor injuries as a result of being physically assaulted. Police arrested and charged a 30-year-old female with assault. She was released on an Undertaking with a court date in September. The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Arrested for Break and Enter and on outstanding warrants
On the 25th of August at 1:00am, Belleville Police responded to North Park Street regarding a suspicious person in the area who appeared to be trying to enter vehicles. Officers arrived on scene and located a male inside the garage of a residence. It was determined that the male had broken into three separate garages. In addition, the male currently had two outstanding warrants for breaching his probation. As a result, the 28-year-old Belleville resident was charged with three counts of break, enter and commit theft and was held for a bail hearing.
Police looking to speak with driver following single motor vehicle accident
On the 25th of August at 10:13pm, Belleville Police were called to Latta Drive in Thurlow regarding a single motor vehicle accident. Upon their arrival, police observed extensive damage to the vehicle and that the airbags had been deployed. Police spoke to a witness who advised that an older male exited the vehicle and when approached by the witness, the male proceeded to run into a nearby wooded area. Members of the Emergency Response Unit, K9 Unit with assistance from the Belleville Police Service’s drone searched the area however were unable to locate the male. The vehicle is a beige coloured Dodge Caliber.
