Northumberland OPP – Weekend Drivers Charged with Impaired, Suspended License, Fail to Comply (Names Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two drivers in unrelated incidents over the weekend.

On August 9, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., police were on patrol on Bridge Street in Hastings when an officer received an from the cruiser Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) regarding a passenger vehicle travelling in the same direction.

Police stopped the vehicle and the driver was confirmed to be suspended. Further investigation revealed that the driver failed to comply with a release order in communicating with a passenger.

As a result, Jason PETERS, 52-years-old, from the Municipality of Trent Hills, was arrested and charged with:

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

–      Failure to comply with undertaking

–      Driving while under suspension.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

 

On August 10, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., OPP along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Township of Hamilton Fire Department responded to a single vehicle collision on County Road 45 in Hamilton Township. Police arrived on the scene where a passenger vehicle was in the ditch and both occupants were being treated by EMS for minor injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

Elizabeth HARVEY, 21-years-old, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, to answer to their charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and th eir vehicle impounded for 7 days.
