Belleville Police – Incidents Include Break In, Wire Stolen, Pedestrian Struck
Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 329 calls for service over a period stretching from 5:00 am on August 2, 2024 to 5:00 a.m. August 6, 2024.
Looking for assistance following break-in
Police are looking to the public for information following a break-in to a business in the city’s northeast end.
Sometime over the weekend unknown suspects broke into a Cannifton Road business and removed approximately $300 worth of tools.

Spool of wire stolen, suspects sought
Officers were dispatched to a business on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road around 11 a.m. Monday for a report of a theft.
The caller to police indicated a person in a white Dodge Ram pickup was observed stealing a roll of wire from the location, which was located between Hamilton Road and Bell Boulevard.
Once an alarm sounded, the culprit took off from the scene with the fibre-optic cable.

Broke into van, arrested
A Sunday morning call to the city’s west end landed a 27-year-old man in custody.
Officers were called to a home around 8:15 a.m. after a man was spotted breaking into a parked van. The suspect was observed smashing a window, removing property and was last seen northbound on Sidney Street.
Police located and arrested the man, who was from Belleville. He was arrested, charged with mischief and held for bail.
Pedestrian struck by truck
Officers charged the driver of a truck after a pedestrian was struck at an east end intersection, Friday.
Police were called to the location around 9 p.m. after a female crossing the road at the intersection was struck by the vehicle.
The female, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Belleville hospital for treatment.
The 30-year-old male driver of the truck was charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm under the Highway Traffic Act.
Out-of-control, taken to BGH
A call to a Church Street shelter to help with a male who was experiencing a crisis led to police spending much of Friday evening at Belleville General Hospital.
Staff at the shelter called police after a man began threatening staff around 8 p.m. and acting out-of-control. The male, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, began to harm himself.
Police apprehended the male under the mental health act and took him to Belleville hospital. Officers eventually handed over custody of the male to hospital security, however were called back a short time later because the male was again acting out of control.
Once staff were able to control the male, police were able to leave the east end facility.
The male was held at Belleville hospital until he was out of crisis and released.
East end domestic dispute
Shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the city’s east end.
Police arrived and were advised a couple were going through a break-up when an argument ensued. During the altercation, a male involved smashed the windshield of his partner’s vehicle before leaving the scene on foot.
Neighbours watched as the 23-year-old Belleville man walked down the street, kicking recycling bins and garbage pails as he travelled.
Officers arrived and after speaking with the parties involved, arrested the male on a charge of Domestic Mischief.
The male was released later in the morning on an undertaking with an August 19, 2024 court date. His name is not being released to protect the identity of the other party involved.
Assaulted landlord
Officers investigating a dispute between a landlord and tenant ended up laying charges, Thursday.
Officers were called to an east end address around 8 p.m. after calls were received regarding an argument between the two parties. While responding to the scene, police received a call that a physical altercation took place resulting in injuries.
Following an investigation, 46-year-old Keith Teran of Belleville was arrested for assault. He was released from custody on conditions with a court date in September to face the allegation.
Arrested on warrants
A 44-year-old Belleville man was arrested in the downtown area on a warrant, Thursday.
Officers with the Community Resource Unit were on patrol shortly before 4 p.m. when they encountered the man, who was wanted for failing to appear in court to face drug charges. During his arrest, a quantity of drugs were located.
In addition to the warrant, the man was also arrested and charged with with possession of a controlled substance and failing to comply with his release conditions. He was held for a bail hearing on August 2, 2024.
