Cobourg Police – Cobourg Man Charged with Assault (Name Released)
A 61-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police responded to an animal complaint.
On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at approximately 12:42 a.m., police responded to a report of a dog attacking a woman near Densmore Road and Division Street in the Town of Cobourg. Police located a woman suffering from what appeared to be several dog bite wounds.
The police investigation determined that an altercation between the woman and a man at a residence escalated, and the man assaulted the woman. The victim left the residence and was bitten by the man’s dog after he directed the dog to attack. The woman was transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Robert Thomas (61) of Cobourg was arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
The accused was released on an undertaking to a court date of August 14, 2024.
The dog was seized pursuant to the Dog Owners Liability Act.
