Peterborough Police Service – Incidents Include, Hate Crime, Impaired Arrest, Pedestrian Struck

Criminal Harassment/Hate Crime Arrest

A 48-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges in connection with an incident early Friday morning.

At approximately 1:40am on June 28, 2024, officers were called about a man with a pride flag screaming homophobic slurs outside of a building toward an apartment.  The man was then spotted burning the flag and when confronted went back to his residence.

The complainant called back with more information around 8:00pm that day, and officers attended the residence. They also learned that an online report about the flag being taken from another neighbour had been filed but not processed.

As a result of the investigation, a 48-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

The accused is currently bound by two probation orders with the following conditions: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not utter words or wear clothing or hold signs that express, have or depict any racial, ethnic, anti- semitic, homophobic slurs and/or threats of violence or death while in any public places or places where you can be overheard by members of the public.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in WASH (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) court on June 29, 2024.

The incident has been classified as a hate crime.

 

Warrant Arrest

A 35-year-old Peterborough man wanted on two warrants was arrested Friday afternoon.

At approximately 4:50pm on June 28, 2024, officers with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) along with K9 Isaac executed an arrest warrant at a residence on Lansdowne Street and Sherburne Street area in connection with several domestic incidents and a traffic incident.  ERT was able to take the man into custody without incident.  During a further search of the man and the apartment, officers seized:

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on June 29, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 24-year-old Oshawa man is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:00am on June 30, 2024, an officer on an unrelated call in the King Street and George Street area spotted a vehicle being driven erratically and conducted a traffic stop.  Upon speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old Oshawa man was arrested and charged with:

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court August 13, 2024.

 

Pedestrian Struck

A 76-year-old driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The incident happened about 8:30am on Sunday, June 30, 2024, in the Goodfellow Road and Clonsilla Avenue area.  The 72-year-old pedestrian was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of their injuries.
