A 64-year-old Cobourg man has been arrested in an ongoing police investigation into illegal drug activity in downtown Cobourg.

In the Spring of 2024, the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) commenced an investigation with the assistance of the Port Hope Police Service CIB. Police received information that a Cobourg resident was allegedly trafficking illicit drugs in the Town of Cobourg.

On June 12, 2024, Cobourg and Port Hope Police CIB arrested a male near Queen Street and Henry Street in the Town of Cobourg.

A subsequent Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant was executed at the man’s home in the area of King Street and Division Street, which led to the seizure of a loaded handgun, approximately 411 grams of fentanyl, 126 grams of cocaine, 55 grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of morphine and oxycodone pills, 9,135 illegal cigarettes and $103,220 in Canadian currency and $62 American currency.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs and tobacco is $183,900.

As a result of the investigation, Dominico Gallo (64) of Cobourg was charged with the following:

1. Four Counts of Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

2. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

3. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

4. Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

5. Trafficking in contraband tobacco contrary to section 121.1 of the Criminal Code

6. Sell unmarked fine cut tobacco contrary to section 31(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act

7. Possess unmarked fine cut tobacco contrary to section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act

8. Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code

9. Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code

10. Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code

11. Possession of ammunition contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code

12. Possession of ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized contrary to section 96(2) of the Criminal Code

13. Possession of firearm at unauthorized place contrary to section 93(a) of the Criminal Code

14. Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition contrary to sec95(1) of the Criminal Code

15. Careless storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing later today.
