A 23-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police responded to a theft from a vehicle Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 08:50 a.m., police were dispatched to an address near James Street and Division Street for a report of theft from a vehicle. The victim advised that their wallet had been stolen from their car and that their credit card had been fraudulently used multiple times in Cobourg.
Police identified a suspect. While on dynamic patrol, police located the individual in the downtown area of Cobourg.
As a result of the police investigation, Joshua Tyler (23) of Cobourg was arrested and charged with the following offences:
1. Theft Under $5,000 – Contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code
2. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code
3. Two counts of Possession of Credit Card – Contrary to Section 342(1)(c) of the Criminal Code
4. Three counts of Use of Credit Card – Contrary to Section 342(1)(c) of the Criminal Code
5. Three counts of Use of Credit Card Data – Contrary to Section 342(3) of the Criminal Code
6. Three counts of Fraud Under $5,000 – Contrary to Section 381(b) of the Criminal Code
7. Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose – Contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code
8. Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Fentanyl) Contrary to Section 4(1) of the CDSA
