Woman Hailed as Hero for Jumping Into Cobourg Harbour to Save Person Who Fell In

Cobourg Police are hailing a woman who jumped into Cobourg Harbour to save another woman a hero for her actions.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 emergency services were dispatched to the Cobourg Harbour after a woman fell in by the north wall.

Cobourg Police Sgt. Marc Bellemare spoke to Today’s Northumberland and said, “due to the heroic actions of a Cobourg citizen they were able to keep her above water.”

Members of the Canadian Coast Guard pulled the victim out of the water and the rescuer was able to climb a ladder along the wall where she was treated by emergency services.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the rescuer declined medical treatment.
