Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged seven individuals including four for impaired operation.
On May 17, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., OPP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence near Castleton. Shortly after the arrival of police, a 15-year-old male was arrested and charged with:
– Assault
– Mischief – destroys or damages property.
The individual shall not be named due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
On May 17, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers were at a location in the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand regarding a prior incident when a motorist approached and came to their attention. Police entered into an impaired operation investigation and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made. As a result, the driver wa s arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
Timothy STANFORD, 44-years-old, from Alnwick-Haldimand was charged with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
On May 18, 2024, shortly before noon, the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit arrested an individual from Quinte West as a result of a sexual assault complaint which was received on December 4, 2023. The historical incident is reported to have occurred between 1980 and 1986. Following over a five-month investigation, a 66-year-old male has been charged with:
– Sexual intercourse with a female under 14 years of age
– Sexual intercourse with a stepdaughter or female employee
The name of the accused shall not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
On May 18, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., OPP responded to a report of a s ingle vehicle collision on IXL Road on the Municipality of Trent Hills. Police arrived and observed a motorcycle in the ditch. Officers spoke with the motorcyclist who was uninjured at the time.
As a result, Kenneth MACKAY, 62-years-old of Hastings, was arrested and charged with;
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
– Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
– Fail to surrender insurance card.
On May 19, 2024, the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit arrested a person from the Municipality of Brighton as a result of a sexual assault complaint which was reported to police on April 23, 2024. A 23-year-old male has been charged with:
– Sexual Assault
The name of the accused shall n ot be released to protect the identity of the victim.
On May 20, 2024, shortly before noon, OPP were on patrol and stopped a passenger vehicle on Division Street in Cobourg. Following speaking with the driver, an ASD demand was made. As a result, the individual was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
Kristina PRINS, 50-years-old, from Cobourg has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
On May 21, 2024, at approximately 11:15 p.m., OPP were dispatched to a traffic complaint regarding a driver on County Road 2 in the Municipality of Brighton. Officers located the described vehicle and stopped it on a commercial premises on County Road 2. Police were led into an impaired operation investigation where the accused was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testin g.
Wayne PEARSON, 72-years-old, of Quinte West, has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
For each of the accused arrested for impaired operation, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
