Peterborough Police Service – Incidents Include Three People Charged with Impaired Driving, Break and Enter Arrest (No Names Released)

Impaired Arrest

A 30-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 8:25pm on May 11, 2024, officers were called to a collision in a parking lot in the Stornoway Place and Goodfellow Road area.  Upon arrival, officers learned that a vehicle had been driven erratically and collided another vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 4, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 26-year-old Trent River, ON man is facing charges after an incident Saturday night.

At approximately 11:00pm on May 11, 2024, an officer was waiting for a tow truck driver to finish up with a call in a parking lot in the Stornoway Place and Goodfellow Road area when a vehicle entered the parking lot and almost struck the tow truck driver.  The officer approached the vehicle as the driver was exiting the vehicle.  During the conversation, the officer noticed signs of impairment, however the man refused to provide a breath sample.

As a result, a 26-year-old Trent River, ON man was arrested and charged with:

Refusing or failure to comply with demand charge carries the same penalties as an impaired driving charge.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 4, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 19-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:45am on May 12, 2024, officers were called to an alley behind a Charlotte Street business.  Upon arrival, officers learned that an unknown male and an unknown female attempted to drive away in a vehicle that did not belong to them.  However, while trying to driveaway the pair struck a pole and were held by security at the business until police arrived. Officers spoke to the male driver and during the conversation noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old Ottawa man was arrested and charged with:

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 24, 2024.

 

Break and Enter Arrest

A 43-year-old Whitby man is facing a charge after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:40am on May 12, 2024, officers were called to a scrapyard in the Township of Cavan-Monaghan about an unknown person on the property.  Officers used the RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) to locate a potential suspect vehicle while K9 Isaac was called in to search the yard for suspects.  Within minutes, K9 Isaac located the suspect under a vehicle.  The suspect was treated for a minor dog bite at the scene by EMS.

As a result, a 43-year-old Whitby man was arrested and charged with:

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court June 4, 2024.

 

Threats/Warrant Arrest

A 16-year-old Peterborough male wanted on a warrant is facing more charges after an incident Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, the suspect turned himself into police.  He was wanted for mischief under $5000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, robbery with a weapon and utter threats -cause death or bodily harm X2 after an incident May 7th, 2024.  The male was further charged in connection with a series of threatening messages to another group of teens through Snap Chat on Friday, May 10, 2024.

As a result, a 16-year-old Peterborough male was arrested on strength of the warrant and further charged with:

The accused was held in custody and appeared in WASH (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) Court on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

A second Peterborough teen also wanted in the May 7, 2024 incident for Mischief under $5,000, Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Robbery with a Weapon, and Uttering Threats – Cause Death or bodily harm x2 turned himself into police on Saturday.  It was further determined the male was connected to the incident on Friday, May 10, 2024 in which a threatening message was sent through text.

As a result, a 17-year-old Peterborough male was arrested on the strength of the warrant and further charged with:

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court May 27, 2024.

Under the Youth Criminal Justic Act, the names of young people cannot be released.
