Peterborough County OPP – Vehicle in Ditch Results in Impaired Charge (Name Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a single vehicle collision that led to the driver being charged with impaired.

On May 11, 2024, just prior to 1:30am, Peterborough County OPP received a report of a vehicle that had gone into the ditch on Highway 7 near the 11th Line of Asphodel. Officers arrived to find an individual next to the vehicle who identified as the driver. The driver was travelling on Highway 7 when they attempted to turn at the 11th Line where they left the road landing in the ditch. While speaking with the driver, officers noted signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was read. The driver provided a sample of their breath resulting in a ‘FAIL’ at which point they were arrested.

Andrew MCNEIL (age 29) of Norwood, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 11, 2024.
