Peterborough Police – Traffic Enforcement Initiative Results
The Peterborough Police Traffic Unit conducted traffic enforcement initiatives in two locations in our policing area Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
In Lakefield, officers were in the area of Water and Bridge and issued 2 warnings connected to a three way stop.
In Peterborough, officers were at the George Street and Simcoe Street and issued 3 tickets related to cell phone use as well as two warnings. In one case where a ticket was issued, the male driver of a vehicle was observed holding their phone and having a FaceTime conversation while behind the wheel and when stopped, asked if they could finish their conversation before speaking to the officer.
The Peterborough Police Service reminds motorists that using a handheld device while driving comes with a penalty of $615 and up to 6 demerit points.
