GRCA Issues Special Weather Statement
The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority advises that Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for our area. Periods of heavy rainfall are expected on Saturday with
the arrival of a low-pressure system.
Showers will begin overnight, with the heaviest rainfall to occur Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures will remain in the 6 to 7°C range through the day but are expected to reach zero by Sunday morning and the precipitation may change over to flurries as the system moves out
of the region. Total precipitation amounts are expected to be in the 30 to 40mm range.
There is very little snow left in the Ganaraska watersheds to add runoff, however the ground is generally saturated and will have limited capacity to absorb the rainfall. While no flooding is
anticipated, higher than normal water levels and flows will occur in local streams, ponds and ditches. In addition, slippery stream banks and fast flowing, cold water will create hazardous
conditions around all water bodies, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Any remaining ice cover should be considered weak and extremely hazardous. Please exercise
caution around all water bodies and alert any children in your care of these hazards.
This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Sunday, March 10th, 2024.
