United Way and Partners in Caring Celebrate 25th Day of Caring in Northumberland County

United Way Northumberland and its Partners in Caring are thrilled to announce the highly anticipated return of the 25th Day of Caring, happening on Friday, June 7th, 2024.

This year marks a significant milestone as the community celebrates 25 years of the Day of Caring initiative. The annual event began when United Way recognized that many individuals and not-for-profit organizations were unable to complete minor repairs due to health, financial, and personal restrictions, or that they may need help through volunteer labour or donated supplies to make one’s living situation more comfortable and safer. Each year, local companies and individuals unite to volunteer their time and talents, providing invaluable support to these individuals and groups in need.

United Way, along with CpK Interior Products, Cameco Corporation, SABIC, Lakefront Utilities, Arclin Surfaces, Town of Cobourg, Stalwood Homes, AkzoNobel, and Home Building Centre, are proud to support this initiative. The Lions Club of Cobourg has generously provided their hall and will serve a hot breakfast to all volunteers to kick off the day.

“The 25th year of Day of Caring highlights its profound and lasting effect on individuals, groups, and organizations,” said Alicia Vandine, Executive Director, United Way Northumberland. “We’re grateful for the support of local organizations and industries, who generously contribute their time and resources to this crucial program in our community.”

The application period is now open for local non-profits, charitable, and community organizations to submit a job request. Jobs may range from painting, cleaning, gardening, and yard work to minor repairs. Please remember that the safety of volunteers is essential and potentially dangerous jobs will not be approved.

To complete your application, please visit United Way’s Day of Caring page at https://www.mynuw.org/day-of-caring/. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 19, 2024, by 4 p.m.

Volunteers are the heart of Day of Caring’s success. Last year, over 100 individuals came together to complete 30 projects in Northumberland County. Those passionate about making a difference are encouraged to contact Dianne at dturk@nuw.unitedway.ca or call (905) 372-6955 to get involved.

United Way extends a warm invitation to new businesses to become Partners in Caring. For more information on sponsorship opportunities, please reach out to United Way directly.
