Cobourg Police – Cobourg Man Charged with Five Counts Use of Credit Card, Five Counts Fraud Under $5,000 Resist Peace Officer, Possess Weapons for Dangerous Purpose (No Name Released)

A 43-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after committing credit card fraud at businesses throughout the Town of Cobourg.

On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Cobourg Police Service received a report of a stolen credit card.

Shortly after losing a wallet containing a credit and debit card, the bank alerted the complainant of several fraudulent transactions made with their credit card at businesses in Cobourg.

Police identified five stores where purchases were made and identified the suspect.

As a result of the investigation, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, a 43-year-old Cobourg man was located and arrested after a brief foot pursuit. Upon arrest, police found a knife in the man’s possession.

The man was subsequently charged with Possession of a Credit Card, five counts of Use of a Credit Card, five counts of use of credit card data, five counts of fraud under $5,000, five counts of possession of property obtained by crime, resist peace officer, and weapons possession for dangerous purpose.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
