Northumberland OPP – Stolen Vehicle Recovered (Names Released)
(ALNWICK-HALDIMAND TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested persons following a canine track.
On February 6, 2024, at approximately 3:35 p.m., officers were on patrol on County Road 2 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township when they received an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) notification regarding a stolen vehicle.
Officers turned to follow the passenger vehicle and it was located unoccupied at a property on Hilltop Road. An individual was observed fleeing from the scene towards County Road 2.
Northumberland OPP with the assistance of the Canine Unit (K9) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) assisted in tracking the person.
The accused was observed getting into a nearby pick-up truck which was stopped without incident by Police. All occupants were arrested.
Jordon COLE, 24-years-old, from Toronto, has been charged with:
· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
· Failure to comply with a release order – other than to attend court
Austin BENNET, 27-years-old, from Brighton, has been charged with:
· Omit to assist peace officer
Ken KARGUS, 72-years-old, from Colborne, has been charged with:
· Obstruct peace officer
All accused are due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
