Peterborough County OPP – Collision Involving School Bus Leads to Impaired Driving Charges (Name Released)

A two vehicle collision involving a school bus has resulted in one driver being charged with Impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Buckhorn Road in Selwyn Township that was reported at approximately 3:30pm on November 21, 2023. An eastbound vehicle traveling on Deer Bay Road collided with a northbound school bus traveling on Buckhorn Road. Seven students were on the bus at the time of the collision, but no injuries were reported. Upon arrival, OPP Officers spoke with the driver of the eastbound vehicle and determined they were under the influence of alcohol.

Isaiah SMOKE (age 21) of Peterborough, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on December 19, 2023.
